Automation Engineer – Ansible

Roles and Responsibilities

Base skillset:

• Experience with Ansible
• Base knowledge of Windows and Linux OS
• Highly organized will need to maintain a reasonably sized library of playbooks, software, and settings
• Persistence – this role will require problem-solving and regular nagging of service/software owners for information
• Communication – regular interaction with service/software owners to gather requirements and apply those requirements to playbooks

Goals for position:

• Approved library of software – including versions and settings
• Playbook configurations are kept up-to-date
• Systems are compliant per their respective playbook
• Responsible for maintaining and administering Client’s CMDB (e.g., Lansweeper) to ensure it’s accuracy

Responsibilities:

• Identify and catalog approved versions of software and their associated settings
• Regularly validate with application owners the correct version of software/settings
• Ensure Artifactory has approved versions of Chocolatey and RPM software packages
• Ensure playbooks align with the approved version/settings
• Test playbooks to ensure they are behaving as expected
• For playbook failures:
• Monitor and resolve non-compliant systems
• Perform post-mortems on misconfigurations of playbooks
• Systems in Lansweeper are correctly associated with their correct role
• Prioritization of requests for playbook updates and additions

Future state responsibilities (potentially in 6 to 12 months):

• AMI management
• Base container standards
• Ansible version upgrades
